Take Five to Flyourish

OK, so Flyourish is about finding time to learn, to grow, to be your best, to practice self care, to create joy and happiness, to follow your dreams, even in the everyday (and some other fun stuff of course). And we all know the everyday can be tough sometimes. Over the past month, I worked a lot, and it only got worse the closer I got to the end of the month, my year end. That’s alright, it’s what I do, it’s the job, but to say I had zero time is an understatement.

So it got me thinking, what happens when you don’t have the time. Do you just become stagnant, not learning, no growing, not caring, not dreaming? Then I thought, what are things that I could do in five minutes, that would help me- where I’m not just living and existing in the chaos of the everyday at this crazy, busy time. How do I still flyourish, right now, when I have zero time and constantly feel behind and tired and stressed. Think Groundhog Day (life for the past month), and then baby steps… Hmmm, aren’t those both from Bill Murray movies? Anyway…

I came up with a list – five minutes to Flyourish. It’s a very simple list of the many things that you can do in five minutes to – learn, grow, be your best, practice self care, create joy and happiness, and follow your dreams.

So, even in the everyday when things are really crazy, take five and flyourish. You owe it to yourself to do so.

The Take Five List:

Hydrate – this sounds ridiculous but when I’m maxed out and stressed, I barely eat or drink, and dehydration just perpetuates stress, moodiness, and other unhealthy effects on your body;

Have a healthy cup of tea (one with antioxidants, vitamins);

Register for that class you’ve been considering (leisure, school, work related);

Pickup a bouquet of flowers;

Meditate or say a prayer for what you are thankful for;

A detox, hydrating face mask (even while on that conference call – they can’t see you);

Quick yoga/stretch;

Quick workout;

Take a walk and literally smell the roses, touch the flowers, even pick a few and toss them in a jar;

Download a book or podcast – whether fiction, self help, or career related;

Book the massage/spa appointment! (sometimes that is the hardest part);

Book the doctor’s appointment that you are over due on (and has been nagging at you);

Write a prioritized to do list (relieves stress);

Give – (schedule to volunteer, or make a $ donation) research shows we like to give, it reduces stress, creates happiness and wellbeing.

There are many take fives you can do to help you stay on the path to personal growth and a better self. Just figure out what is best for you and take those five important minutes.

All the best! XOXO
